Destination weddings don't need to be kept in another nation
According to the WeddingWire study, nearly 1 in 4 couples consider their wedding to be a type of destination wedding, however only 13 percent stated it took place abroad. 43 percent of those who specified their wedding as a destination wedding got wed in a different state, not a different nation. And only one-third of couples hosting a destination wedding had to fly to get there.
Tropical destination weddings are in the minority
Okay, so a destination wedding does not require an insane quantity of travel, but a lot of destination weddings take location on the beach? Only 22 percent of couples host their destination wedding in what's considered a tropical destination.
Couples choose a location that's special to them
The answer to the question "what is a destination wedding?" might be this simple: A destination wedding is hosted in an area that's unique to the couple, that doesn't include their home towns or where they presently live. According to the WeddingWire survey, 53 percent of couples picked their wedding destination due to the fact that it's significant to them. And half of couples in the survey picked to have a destination wedding since it's a distinct experience. Whether it's a preferred destination, a beloved city, or a college town, millennial couples desire every aspect of their wedding, from the location to the smallest of information, to feel personal.
Couples hosting a destination wedding have a longer engagement
You might believe an easygoing destination wedding can be thrown up at the last-minute, however these weddings require a fair bit more preparation than a home town event. In fact, the average couple hosting a destination wedding invests 17 months preparing their wedding, as opposed to a 13-month planning timeline for couples hosting home town wedding events This makes sense when you consider it, as couples normally want to provide their guests more observe to book travel and lodgings than if they were hosting a home town wedding. And if couples wish to visit their wedding place a couple of times to meet suppliers, that will need extra time.
Destination weddings have method fewer guests than home town wedding events
It probably comes as no surprise that destination weddings have less guests than hometown wedding events. According to the WeddingWire study, the average couple hosts 94 guests at a destination wedding, as compared to 132 visitors at a home town wedding.
Destination weddings are held throughout the day
One of the primary factors couples pick a destination wedding area is because of its fantastic landscapes-- and they desire their guests to in fact see and experience it! This is most likely why more destination wedding ceremonies happen throughout the day. In fact, 62 percent of couples host their destination wedding ceremonies in the daytime, instead of 54 percent of couples weding in their home towns. A daytime wedding also allows for a longer event, as the vacation-like setting puts couples and their guests in a partying state of mind. And another intriguing fact-- couples hosting a destination wedding are less likely to hold their event in a house of worship (just 12 percent do, as opposed to a quarter of those hosting a hometown event), suggesting they're probably selecting outside event settings to fully embrace their wedding area.
Couples hosting a destination wedding are more likely to hire a wedding planner
Less than a quarter of couples hosting home town weddings work with a wedding coordinator, and many often they're getting a day-of coordinator. Clearly, couples hosting destination weddings see the long list of benefits of employing a planner, whether it be one who is based in their wedding location (our recommendation) or a pro from their house base.
